Cleaning Before the Holidays

The parties and family time the holidays bring can be exciting, but stressful. To prevent getting overwhelmed it’s best to tidy and clean your home ahead of time. Here are some tips to consider so you’re ready to tackle the holiday season with ease.

Establish your to-do list

To avoid running into more errands that you hadn’t thought of, do a thorough walk-through of your home and write down what needs to be done. Having everything written down will help you create an efficient plan of attack.

Tackle the clutter first

You can’t start a deep clean if there are random items lying around. Go through each room and tidy up thoroughly. Put up any shoes, toys, mail, used cups, etc. Once you have a blank slate, you can get to the nitty gritty.

Gather your cleaning supplies

Nothing will harsh your cleaning mood like needing a cleaning product and not having it. Save yourself extra trips to the store and do an inventory check. Now is the time to ditch the all-purpose cleaner and use proper products for things like wood, upholstery, and stone. Your home will be cleaner and less damaged over time.

Don’t forget the usually-forgotten

We’re talking walls, baseboards, fans, out-of-reach spots. Tackling the little things will result in a home that’ll impress your guests.

Prep all things “guest”

If you have people staying over this holiday season, you’ll want to prepare their space well. Dust the room top to bottom, vacuum the mattress, and disinfect the guest bathroom. If you need to, consider purchasing a nice set of sheets and towels. Don’t forget a nice holiday candle and stocked guest bath (soap, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, etc.) Make them feel special and welcome!

Your casa is their casa

Once the deep cleaning is done, it’s time for the fun part. The holidays are all about time with loved ones, so you’ll want to make your guests feel comfortable and special in your home. Set out a bowl of candies and some magazines, put up some framed pictures of the family, get plenty of snacks and drinks, set up enough space for everyone to sit comfortably and socialize. Put on your hosting hat and get ready to party!
