Successful Spring Cleaning

Spring is around the corner, and that means it’s time for a home refresh! The transition from winter to spring is the perfect time to open up some windows and take care of any stuffiness your home took on during the cold months. The prospect of a deep-cleaned home is appealing, but the process can feel intimidating. To help you be successful in your spring cleaning journey, we’ve put together some tips and tricks to keep in mind.

Assess your home

Before jumping in head first, take some time to go from room to room and note what needs to be done. For instance, in your closet, you may need to take out clothes you want to donate, vacuum and/or mop, wipe down all the shelves, and reorganize what you will keep. Having all the tasks written down makes it easier to plan out when you will complete each task. You can also organize in order of priority, so the process has distinct steps.

Once you have a list of tasks for each area of your home, you can use these lists in your schedule. For instance, you can focus on one or two rooms each weekend, and write these rooms in your calendar. Marking through them when the cleaning is complete will feel like an accomplishment, and motivate you to keep going.

If you find yourself struggling to make time for the cleaning, you can consider hiring a professional cleaning service to help you out. The lists made for each room can still come in handy, as the cleaners can use these as a checklist. This way you know everything you want to be done will be done, without having to sacrifice any of your own time.

Cleaning time is your time

A lot of people dread cleaning. It can feel tiring and time-consuming. A good way to shift negative feelings to positive ones is to make a personal ritual out of cleaning. This will look different for everyone, but here are some ways to make the time spent cleaning worthwhile.

  • Listen to a good podcast

  • Listen to a party playlist or calming playlist

  • Light your favorite candle in the room you’re working on

  • Open the windows for a nice breeze

  • Put your phone on do not disturb

  • Take before and after pictures for motivation

Do what you’ve been putting off

Spring cleaning is the perfect reason to do the things for your home that you’ve been wanting to but putting off. This doesn’t just mean cleaning the hard-to-reach spots and donating things. Once the home is clean and feels like new, it’ll feel good to buy some new decor and home goods. You’ve cleared out the old, now in with the new! Here are some things you can consider adding to your cleaned space:

  • Closet organizers with labels

  • Shoe rack & coat rack

  • Decorative shelves

  • Get pictures printed and put them in new frames

  • A distinct area for personal hobbies

  • Matching spice containers

  • Acrylic organizers for the refrigerator & under the sink

  • Jewelry organizer

  • New makeup & toiletries

Spring cleaning is the fresh start many of us crave. Don’t let a busy schedule or a long list of tasks deter you from renewing your home! Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be sure to have a successful spring cleaning.
